Does Your Face Make You Sick?

Do you look healthy when you look in the mirror? I am not talking about accepting the way you look, that is different. What I want you to consider is that the image you see will be reflected in the way your body reacts. Let me give you an example, if you have had a night on the booze there is a chance you will look peaky in the morning. If you continue to look peaky every time you look in the mirror your recovery will more than likely be slower than if you put on a healthy face with makeup or tanning cream.

Magic of Makeup

When I was in hospital for my cancer operations (I was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1992), I discovered the importance of putting on my make-up. I needed to make the effort to look good every day. It was a strain most of the days. Looking back I realise it was one of the most important things I did. Every day during my hospital stay, I would manage to put on my make-up. Sometimes I would put my mascara on one eye and then I would need to take a rest. After a short rest I would then apply my mascara to the other eye and then take another rest. Bit by bit I would slowly and purposely apply my make-up to my face before the evening visiting hour. Sometimes this took all day. Why do this?

Tanning in bed

I also had a facial bronzer and I used this bronzer every day, so that the face looking back at me in the mirror looked healthy. I looked like I had just returned from a sunny holiday and I would complete the look by doing a full face make-up to include mascara and lippy. The whole process would take hours. Due to complications, I was in hospital three times longer than expected, so by the time I left the hospital I looked like a carrot!

Why do this?

It was all about tricking my mind into producing a healthy body to match the visual picture. I was showing myself a sun tanned face every time I looked into the mirror. Your subconscious mind accepts what you show it and works behind the scenes to reflect what it is shown. Show it a sick face and it will reflect this in how you feel. Show it a healthy sun tanned face and it does the same.

It was a great trick and I still use it today if I feel a little under the weather, I find the face tanning cream and slap it on. This works every time for me.
